Orthodontics

Most teenagers and adults today expect to have straight teeth. Orthodontics is one of the basics of cosmetic dentistry. A lesser-understood and appreciated aspect is the proper development of airway and facial profile in children.

It is important that children’s arches are allowed to grow and develop properly. This is the main focus of treatment once first molars are in. If a child has good jaw development, straightening teeth is much easier if needed at all. We never use headgear, and seldom recommend bicuspid extractions. On average, we prefer a full broad smile at age 21 to aligned teeth at age 13.

Retainers need to be worn to keep teeth straight. The muscle forces of tongue, lips, and cheeks push the teeth. There are several retainer choices. We will work with you to find the best one suited for you.
